The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo

Held annually throughout August the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is part of the wider Edinburgh Festival. The Tattoo sees a range of military bands perform on the Esplanade of Edinburgh Castle and is one of Edinburgh’s most iconic events. Experience the electric atmosphere as the highly skilled bands, pipers, drummers, dancers and display teams perform in this fantastic arena.

The event has been held since 1950 and has seen international military regiments from over 30 countries perform. Each year sees different performances although the popular traditional Scottish pipers are always a key part of the show. There is also a fantastic light show to accompany the performers and the Saturday night evening show sees some impressive fireworks.
