Edinburgh Castle

At the heart of Edinburgh, and overlooking the streets below, is the striking Edinburgh Castle. Sat on the volcanic plug of Castle Rock there has been a royal castle here since the 12th century. This historic fortress has played a significant part in Edinburgh and Scotland’s past and is packed with information and tales of days gone by.

As well as having great views of Edinburgh, the highlights of the castle include the National War Museum, The Royal Palace, Prisons of War and the Crown Jewels exhibition. Edinburgh Castle is Scotland’s most visited paid tourist attraction and sees over a million visitors each year. The castle is also home to significant events throughout the year including Edinburgh’s spectacular Hogmanay firework display and the Edinburgh Military Tattoo.
