This all seater and fully accessible stadium boasts a world class reputation for hosting top events including the Aviva British Grand Prix International Athletics. It also provides fantastic training facilities for sports clubs, the local community and talented athletes.
It was originally built in1955 and has undergone extensive redevelopment. With a capacity of approximately 12,000 it is the sixth largest stadium in North East England and has been the setting for five world record achievements. Although this venue mainly caters for athletics, both Gateshead Football Club and Gateshead Thunder Rugby League Club have used the arena for their games. It has also hosted concerts by many famous music artists, including Bryan Adams, Tina Turner and Bon Jovi. With over 1.7 million people using this facility every year and with continuous investment, the Gateshead International Stadium has a bright future ahead.
