The Stadio Olimpico in Rome is situated within the Foro Italico, a sports complex located at the CONI Monte Mario. Just north of Rome, the complex also includes the Stadio dei Marmi, the tennis stadium of Rome and the Swimming Stadium Rome. The Stadio Olimpico hosts football matches of both Lazio and Roma, the final of the Italian Cup, the Golden Gala, the annual meeting of athletics, and a wide variety of concerts from both Italian and international artists.
Currently, the Stadio Olimpico is the second largest in Italy with capacity for 72,700 seats. Along with the San Siro Stadium in Milan, the Stadio Olimpico is the only one with a ranking of UEFA Elite (ex 5 stars) which allows it to host the finals of major UEFA club competitions such as the Champions League and the Europa League.
The Stadio Olimpico in Rome was inaugurated in May 1953 with the football match between Italy and Hungary and during the 1960 Olympic Games it was the setting for the opening and closing ceremonies as well as the athletics events. It has hosted the World Championships in Athletics, the World Cup and the Champions League final four times.
