Denmark is a Scandinavian country located in the north of Europe. Bordered by the Østersøen Sea and Germany it is made up of a peninsula and the Danish archipelago of over 400 islands. Rich in history and culture it is famously the home of the Vikings. Remains of this past can still be seen today with impressive Viking ruins, medieval churches and Renaissance castles.

Modern Denmark has a booming economy and offers a mix of cosmopolitan cities, lively towns and scenic countryside. The Danes have a great eye for design and the country is a key player when it comes to architecture, fashion and graphic design. One of the most popular children’s toys in the world – Lego was invented in Denmark and it is home to the original Legoland theme park.

With great restaurants, reliable transport and picturesque scenery whatever your reason for visiting Denmark it is sure to be a memorable one.

Weather

The weather in Denmark tends to be quite mild. The coldest month – February sees the lowest temperatures of around 0°C and then in the summer the warmest month of July sees an average of around 17°C. September and November tend to see the most rainfall but it can rain all year round.

Transport

Air:

The main airport in Denmark is Copenhagen Airport. It is the largest airport in Scandinavia and sees regular flights from all over the world. Other significant airports include Billund Airport in central Jutland, Aalborg Airport and Aarhus Airport.

Train:

It is possible to travel to Denmark from Germany, Holland, Czech Republic and Sweden by train. There are several services per day which run from Hamburg to Copenhagen which takes around 4 – 5 hours. Train is also a popular method for travelling around Denmark and are generally very reliable.

Getting around:

Travelling around Denmark is very straightforward and the country offers well maintained roads, good rail networks, frequent bus services as well as ferry and boat transportation between the islands.
