History

The city of Edinburgh is known for its iconic historical features. During the 7th century, the English named the place Eiden’s burgh, with burgh actually being the old word for fort. Edinburgh city later became a grand community during the 12th century after first being a fort around the Castle Rock, hence the ‘burgh’ in its name. Edinburgh Castle was built in the 12th Century and is a must-see destination when visiting the city. Also well worth a visit is Arthur’s seat which is an extinct volcano situated in Holyrood Park.

Along with convenient trains crossing the city and beyond, there are public trams too. Running right from Edinburgh Airport to York Place, the tram takes you straight through the city.
